Every late winter,
I mother the earth
with compost.
I mother my house plants
with music, tender caresses,
and thanks for their beauty.
I mother my cat
cuddled on my chest.
Loud purrs soothing my heartbeat.
I mother my dog,
dosing him with Rhus tox
for the stiff joints we share.
I mother my friends
and family with honesty,
a burr under the saddle.
I mother the boulders in the mountains,
my back resting against their solid
sunlit surfaces. I hear the message:
”I am here for you.”
